Description
Tretizen-20 is a drug used to treat severe acne that does not respond to other treatments, including antibiotics. This product is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Zen Labs and contains the active substance Isotretinoin. 13-cis-retinoic acid (isotretinoin) was first synthesized in 1955. In addition to acne, indications for the use of the drug are rosacea, perioral dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, folliculitis, granuloma annulus, sarcoidosis, various keratinization disorders and photo-aging.
Drug effect
Isotretinoin slows down the proliferation of epithelial cells of the ducts of the sebaceous glands, the formation of detritus, facilitates the evacuation of detritus, and normalizes terminal cell differentiation. Isotretinoin facilitates secretion and reduces sebum production. After oral administration, absorption of isotretinoin is variable, bioavailability is variable and low; taking isotretinoin with food increases bioavailability by 2 times. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached within 2 to 4 hours. Isotretinoin binds to plasma proteins by 99.9% (mainly with albumin). The half-life of isotretinoin is 19 hours. Isotretinoin is excreted in the bile and kidneys in approximately equal amounts.
Dosage
Isotretinoin by Zen Labs is taken orally. The dosage regimen is set individually, because the adverse reactions and therapeutic efficacy of isotretinoin depend on the dose and vary with each individual. The drug is taken with meals, the initial dose is 0.4 – 0.5 mg / kg per day, which is divided into two parts, and is used for 16 – 24 weeks. Depending on the severity of adverse reactions and response to treatment, dose adjustment is performed. If in 16 – 24 weeks the number of rashes has decreased by 70% or more, then the therapy is stopped. A repeated course of treatment is carried out upon confirmation of a recurrent or persistent course of the disease with an interval of at least 2 months.
Adverse Reactions
There is a high risk of side effects, so you should always think carefully about whether to use oral isotretinoin therapy in your case. The primary symptom is severe dryness of the skin, sore lips, itching and flaking of the skin on the hands and feet. Irritation may occur on the skin and mucous membranes, and in 30% of cases, patients complain of hair loss, which is reversible after the end of treatment. Dry skin is exacerbated by situations where it is exposed to sunlight. During therapy, you should completely abandon sunbathing, and in everyday life, use creams with high filters (at least Sun Protection Factor 50). Another unpleasant side effect is impaired liver function; therefore, the concentration of transaminases should be carefully monitored during therapy. In addition, adverse changes in the patient’s lipid profile are often observed, which also need to be monitored regularly. In the Isotretinoin pills section you can see products from other manufacturers. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the full section of Skin.
